There Fast Times at Ridgemont….

I love 80s nostalgia movies, but this one is so shallow and heartless that I couldn't enoy it at all on any level. The plot? Sex and nudity. Unfortunately kids of the era probably saw this movie as cool and the way the way to be. But the message of this film is that teenagers are dumb and are only interested in sex and drugs, and if they are not then they should be. Forget aspirations, intelligence, feelings, thoughts, emotions and love. Only think about how soon you can lose your virginity, who you can bed, how you can bed them, how long you can go with them, how you're going to discard them in order to move onto your next sexual conquest and how much stoned off your face you can get, and how much you can brag to your friends about it all. Even the couple depicted in a stable relationship are completeley devoid of emotion as they want to break up just because high school is coming to an end and they want the opportunities to screw around with a new bunch of people, so it seems they had 0 feelings toward each other and were only together for the easy sex. Shallow and unlikeable characters in a shallow and unlikeable movie.
And abortion? That issue is tackled in the most unrealistic and misleading way. Like getting a cup of coffee. How many girls has the film screwed up for life because of this.
Parents are nowhere to be seen, as if they didn't even exist. This actually explains the teen's hopeless behaviour. If SoCal teens were really like this in the 80s, it's a very poor reflection on their parents and upbringing and American society in general.
